Reunion 2012
5/5/2012
On Saturday, May 5th, a record number of Newton Country Day School alumnae and guests arrived from 19 states and Washington, DC to celebrate Reunion. More than one-hundred and seventy guests enjoyed the festivities that kicked off with an Afternoon Tea with Sister Rogers honoring the Jubilee Class of 1962 and all Jubilarians going back as far as the Class of 1941. To mark the milestone of a 50th Reunion, members of the Class of 1962 gathered at a weeping cherry tree planted in their honor in the trefoil garden by the front drive. As alumnae arrived, they strolled school corridors recounting memories, sharing laughs, and touring the newer additions.

The Reunion Liturgy celebrated in the Chapel remembered the critically ill and deceased members of the Reunion classes. In his homily, Reverend Randy Sachs, S.J. connected the message of the power of love in the Gospel (John 15:1-8) to the “happy occasion of celebrating a Reunion. May the joy of reconnecting and loving well in this place lead you more deeply into the ways of God’s love,” he said. Jan Quigley McGinn ’72 and P.J. Foster Lurvey ’02 gave the readings and Anica Jeremie ’07 and Olivia Green ’07 were gift-bearers. Long-time faculty John Reine and Maryanne Shemo Mignone offered the Prayers of the Faithful.

During the Welcome Reception, the Reunion classes gathered in the Sunken Garden and the Library atrium and terrace for class pictures and added their names to the Blue and Silver team rosters. There were two more Silver Team attendees than Blue Team guests!

The evening continued with Sister Rogers welcoming all to an Alumnae Dinner in the gym. In her remarks, she offered highlights of the year that included current school events, alumnae initiatives, college placements, and advancement news. At the dinner, the Class of 1967 celebrated both their 45th Reunion and classmate Kathey Hickey Parcells’ birthday!

Many thanks to the energetic and enthusiastic Reunion 2012 class coordinators who helped gather our largest Reunion crowd. Alumnae arrived on campus from four of the New England states, New York, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Louisiana, Minnesota, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, Oregon, California, and Washington, DC. It was a marvelous evening of laughter, memories, and promises to stay in touch.

The Classes of the ‘3’s and ‘8’s will celebrate their Reunion on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Save the date!
