Middle School Foreign Language
Classical Roots

Classical Roots
This sixth grade course will be an exploration. As a class, we will journey through the ancient world of the Greeks and Romans. We will find our way through classical mythology, sculpture, architecture and theatre. We will travel armed with the Latin language, knowledge of history and with an open mind. This course will not simply look back in time but also aims to help us understand where we are now and how we came to be here. As we journey we will discover the origins of many of our words, our stories and our current traditions. We will discuss why some shoes are called Nike and why the first month of the year is January. We will debate the merits of heroes and the deceits of villains; the worries of the immortal gods and the struggles of the mortal humans. Pack your bags and ready your minds, it's going to be a great trip!
