Religion 9: Hebrew Scriptures and Judaism
Students investigate major themes of the Hebrew Scriptures and acquire skill in biblical interpretation through a close reading of the texts and the study of biblical scholarship, literary analysis, and historical research. Emphasis is placed on understanding the covenant between God and the Jewish people as a covenant still in effect, a precious legacy of symbols, spirituality, and Scripture that Christians reverence as related in a special way to the family of Jesus.

Religion 10: Christian Scriptures and Traditions
Intensive study of the Gospels and selected letters of St. Paul promote students' understanding of the diversity of Scripture. The specific meaning and message of these texts in relation to their historical, social, political, and cultural context is examined in light of current biblical scholarship and contemporary challenges of faith. Special attention is given to the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, and to the development of a personal response to the question raised by Jesus, "Who do you say that I am?"

Religion 11: Christianity and Contemporary Culture
Designed to awaken a critical awareness of the place of religion in contemporary society, this course employs an examination of current events, journalism, contemporary theological writing, and social theory. Students analyze present-day society and the response to Christ's call to build the kingdom of God.

Hesed, a 40-hour community service requirement which must be completed between the end of 10th Grade and the end of 11th Grade, complements Religion 11.

Religion 12: Major World Religions
Major World Religions is the culmination of the religion curriculum. Its three major goals are to explore the theological and spiritual traditions of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism; to appreciate and respect diversity and religious pluralism; and to identify intelligent questions about faith in each tradition.
