The modern learning experience has been transformed by new technologies. One of the first Boston-area schools to embrace Learning with Laptops for its Upper School students, Newton is now well into its second decade as a school that supports wireless learning and fosters student exploration and development via computer and online technologies. At Newton students and faculty employ technology across the curriculum to explore new worlds and new disciplines, to organize and analyze data, to create and manipulate images, and to work collaboratively across the classroom and across countries. Above all, Newton students are trained to use technology creatively, ethically, and toward productive educational goals.

The School fosters student skills and faculty mastery and innovation through continued investment in equipment for faculty and classrooms as well as ongoing professional development.

In the Middle School, students are assigned by grade to weekly technology classes that use a variety of class-based technology projects to hone their skills in keyboarding, word processing and formatting, data presentation, spreadsheets, website design, and flash animation. In the Upper School, students receive tech training in the ninth grade when they enter the Learning with Laptops program. After their first year, they learn and employ new software programs and applications as needed for individual class assignments.

The Technology Department staff consults with faculty to promote the use of technology in the curriculum and provides support out of class to students. Faculty integrate technology into their curricula via Moodle sites, course websites and blogs, and extensive use of the First Class email client. Resources include the school-wide wireless network, Middle School mobile lab, Middle School and Library Computer Labs, Media Lab, and multiple ENO and Smart active boards.
