Studio Art, Grades 5–8
The course of study in the Middle School is designed to help students explore their natural creative energy. Projects are designed to challenge the students to explore both familiar and unfamiliar concepts and subject matter. They are introduced to principles of composition, line, shape, color, and form through explorations with paint, printmaking, drawing, and three-dimensional design techniques. Elements of art history are introduced to add cultural and historical significance to the work done in the studio. The goal is to deepen critical and artistic skills and to heighten students’ awareness of the creative process and of self-expression.
